Updates: So many changes!

First of all, happy 2014! Leave it to us to wait until February to say so.

With this new year, we are hoping to create some new pathways for Arrow.  It's difficult to believe it, but it was less than a year ago, in May, that we made our very first wedding video. Our dear friends Laura and Jeremy, who had asked Nicole and I to do their photography, took a chance on us and asked us (actually, agreed to let us) do a wedding video as well.

We dove in, winging it to a large degree. It was my first time filming an event like this. It was my first time trying to manage several cameras and sound equipment all at once, with no second chances. It was my first time editing full-length videos using Final Cut Pro. It was exhilarating.

Since that wedding, through the magic of the grapevine, we were contacted to do more weddings and ended up filming 5 weddings in 2013 through word-of-mouth alone. We are ever so grateful for all of the couples who saw something in our work and chose us to capture their days. We enjoyed every minute of it.

For some time, we have realized that there is a very special and specific niche when it comes to wedding cinematography. Moving forward, we have decided that we will focus on our filmmaking and no longer do photography with Arrow. There are several reasons for this. One: there is such an incredible market of talent in the photography industry. So many creative, innovative photographers are out there and any couple, business or family is certain to be able to find one who has the style that fits their needs best. Two: by shifting our focus to videography exclusively, we will be able to spend our efforts developing our skills so that as a pair we are able to create truly amazing videos.

We are excited! We have changed our name to Arrow Films and are so excited to be moving forward with filmmaking. We've rung in the New Year with some new equipment that we're thrilled to be working with and are sure that this year will bring all kinds of new creativity and inspiration.

Lots of love!

Paula

Wedding: Savanna + Steve

Savanna and Steve were married at the end of September - it's so hard to believe that the wedding was only two months ago, considering the enormous amount of snow that's already on the ground!

It was such a pleasure to film Savanna and Steve's wedding. They were high school sweethearts, which was readily apparent in their comfort with one another as well as the strong, beautiful bond between their two families.

Their wedding took place in beautiful Canmore, with an incredible mountain backdrop - we adore shooting mountain weddings! Savanna and Steve were treated to some dramatic late summer weather during the ceremony but it didn't make it any less sentimental or picturesque. The reception was held at The Iron Goat, one of our favourite Canmore locales with two levels, huge balconies, and a scenic view of Three Sisters Mountain, which was lit up beautifully as the sun went down.

Although this was one of the largest weddings we've shot, it was one of the most intimate as well - there was an incredible energy of love and support for the couple and a great dance floor with some epic dance moves.

If their wedding day was any indication of their future, then there's no doubt at all - it's going to be bright!

Wedding: Koko + Tails

Melissa and Ryan (a.k.a. Koko and Tails) tied the knot on August 4th at the Nipika Rocky Mountain Resort, a gorgeous, off-the-grid resort with the most picturesque landscape imaginable.

This was a truly special wedding to film, as Koko and Ryan are dear friends and completely amazing humans. Nicole (Arrow's photographer) was one of the 7 beautiful bridesmaids, who wore neutral dresses of their own choosing, which suited the occasion perfectly. Koko looked stunning with her long dress and floral crown. All of the details were just SO fitting to the couple and the setting- from the groomsmen pulling the bridesmaids to the altar in an antique wagon, to the billion or so candles in mason jars on the tables, to the insanity that ensued on the dance floor until basically the following morning.

It rained throughout the morning but of course, the clouds parted at just the right time for a sunny ceremony. AND a hummingbird flew in on the ceremony, which is most certainly a good omen. And then it rained again. We still managed to capture some great footage from the day- take a look at the Highlight Video below.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple! We love you.

Wedding: Sheena + Mike

A few weeks ago, we photographed the absolutely beautiful wedding of Sheena and Mike. Their venue, the Edmonton Scottish Society, was rustic and looked unbelievable filled with all of the carefully thought-out decorations and details, like the wheat-filled mason jars and monogrammed burlap runner down the aisle. Sheena also happens to be possibly THE most photogenic person, making our job quite easy (Mike's pretty handsome, as well).

Enjoy some of our favorite captures from the day!

Home Video: Gorge!

A few weeks ago Nicole and I spent an amazing few days roadtripping to George, Washington for Sasquatch! Music Festival. It was unreal. We saw some incredible shows- highlights included but were not limited to The Dirty Projectors, Alt-J, Mumford and Sons, Baths, Toro Y Moi, Grimes, The xx... the list goes on and on.

Music aside, the REAL highlight was being able to spend time with some great friends who we don't always get to spend time with. Since cell phone reception was bleak at best we couldn't ever rely on communicating rendevouz's, but we somehow managed to bump into the people we wanted to see (except for one 8-foot-tall friend who we were sure to see but somehow didn't). I got to cut a rug with both my best friend Laura and her wicked other-half Kevin, some old roommates, my big brother, and our dear friend Banya and her gang.

After four days of music, dancing, and contraband drinks we were feeling pretty exhausted and quite in need of a shower, but very blissed out after all the fun times. We also ended up camping next to an awesome foursome of guys from Vancouver, who are in a band there called Coastline Pilot and who are tons of fun and worth checking out if ever you're there.

I made a little video of some of the good timez spent. Due to the camera ban on site most of the shots are from our iPhones, so quality isn't exactly top-notch.

Enjoy, anyway!

Love Paula

Wedding: Laura + Jeremy

It was so exciting to shoot the wedding of two people dear to us both. The wedding took place at the beautiful Ocean Turquesa resort in Puerto Morelos, Mexico and was full of so much love, so much laughter, so much dancing and, not coincidentally, so much gin + soda! Some of our favorite photos are below, and the highlight reel video is at the bottom.

We love these two and were so thrilled to be a part of their day. We have no doubt that nothing but happiness will be in store for them in their new life together.
